Abstract
- The article discusses the interim government during which the apartheid era homeland of Bophuthatswana in South Africa transitioned into becoming part of the North West Province, South Africa in 1994. Particular focus is given to the role of the Bophuthatswana government's temporary Office of Joint Administrators (OJA), which relies heavily upon the author's experience as a Joint Administrator (JA) in 1994. An overview of the recommendations which the JAs gave to the incoming North West Provincial Government (NWPG), including in regard to civil service workers, is provided. An overview of role that South African political parties played in the Bophuthatswana's interim government, including the African National Congress (ANC), is also provided.
