Abstract
- The article discusses the Fifth Monarchists political movement and the radical Thomas Venner's position within the movement in the mid 17th century England. The article often references and critiques the book "The Fifth Monarchy Men: A Study in Seventeenth Century Millenarianism," by Bernard Capp. An overview of Venner's role in leading rebellions against English ruler Oliver Cromwell and English King Charles II is presented. Particular focus is given to the debate among historians over whether Venner and his violent tactics represented the Fifth Monarchists' mainstream movement.
