Abstract

The article focuses on the support that the U.S. government is providing Central America through the Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI) to address the latter's security problems. It discusses the scope of the security problem, efforts within Central America, and the outlook. Potential policy issues for congressional consideration are raised such as funding levels, human rights concerns, and how CARSI relates to other policies of the U.S. government.
