Abstract

The article discusses the fresco "The Struggle Against Racial Discrimination," painted in 1945 by American-Mexican artist Pablo O'Higgins at the Local 541 of the Ship Scalers, Dry Dock, and Miscellaneous Boat Yard Workers Union in Seattle, Washington. It comments on the efforts of the organization the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) and Seattle's El Centro de la Raza, or the Center for the People, in advocating for the recovery and restoration of the painting at Kane Hall at the University of Washington (UW) in the 1970s.
