Abstract

Reports on the possibility that arterial oxygen tension may be low in patients with polycythemia vera who have no demonstrable co-existent cardiorespiratory disease. Evidence that the hypoxia may be the result of an abnormality of the pulmonary vasculature; Finding that the measurement of oxygen saturation and tension may be misleading when used to differentiate primary from secondary polycythemia.
