Abstract
- The article explores the economic history of North Carolina during World War II wherein shipyards had brought a short-lived economic boom to the state. It notes the significance of the development of North Carolina Shipbuilding Co. (NCSC) as one of a handful of shipyards constructed in an emergency effort to expand the U.S. cargo shipping fleet for the war. Further, Wilmington residents consider the era as one of the most exciting times of their lives despite economic painful conditions.
