Abstract
- The article discusses a study of the supraglacial water budget of a moulin basin in the Sermeq Avannarleq ablation zone on the western margin of the Greenland ice sheet in August 2009. A Campbell Scientific SR-50 sonic sensor and a Geopacks MFP51 Flowmeter were utilized to record water surface height and stream velocity, respectively. The mass balance of water and ice within an idealized crevasse over multiple melt seasons was described using a simple one-dimensional model. The dominant input term to the basin was meltwater production. Results also show negligible rainfall, evaporation and crevasse refreezing/storage terms in the August water budget.
