Abstract

The article presents information on an endemic plant belonging to the Gentianaceae family called Gentiana tetrasepala found at the Valley of Flowers National Park of Gharhwal, India and its extinction due to reasons like habitat specific, unstable habitats and a restricted geographical range. It further discusses the potential threats posed to the extinction of the species that includes invasion of timberline species, unstable snow covers, global warming and climatic change.
