Abstract

The article explains how trade barriers between U.S. states can be a disturbance to domestic agricultural trade. The author points out the most important considerations for policy made by the Department of Agriculture. They include that farmers be able to live and work in good conditions with a reasonable income, consumers be able to purchase needed goods at low prices, that foods be healthy and clean, and that future growth be protected. The conflict between increasing the inspections, standards and regulation of food supplies while supporting farmers' profitability is expressed. Agricultural challenges may be solved by efficient production, processing, transportation and marketing.
