Abstract
- The article details an espionage case from the files of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). An American businessman was contacted by a Russian businessman who wanted to recruit him for espionage. The John Smith story includes the persuasive method used by the Russian to exploit business negotiations and why Smith went to the FBI. Topics include background information on the effort of Soviet-bloc intelligence agencies to get information about American industries, the role of the FBI in espionage cases, and suggestions for counteracting the Soviets' recruitment activity.
