Abstract
- What is the challenge of the 1960's and can our consumeristic economy meet it? Malcom P. McNair believes that increasing governmental intervention in business affairs is a significant trend to watch. Pressures for such intervention come from changed economic and political conditions as well as from the "papa knows best" school of thought -- and the impact on business will be great. How should management react? Professor McNair's prescription ranges from steps to improve distribution efficiency and place more emphasis on the marketing of services to more steadfast opposition to policies that curtail reliance on free markets and private initiative. The author is Lincoln Filene Professor of Retailing at the Harvard Business School. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
