Abstract
- In the air all through the business community are discussions about the headaches associated with "managing" professional employees. These highly educated, intelligent men find it difficult to conform to the traditional business organization. They frequently chafe at being "bossed" by men their superior in rank only, who are, in fact, quite often unable to make sensible decisions in a business world that has suddenly gone intellectual and scientific. Stephen B. Miles, Jr. and Thomas E. Vail place the question squarely before HBR executives who may, in the authors' concept of dual management, find the answers to problems they personally face.
