Abstract

The article mentions the executive's role in managing disputes between subordinates who do not agree on a course of action, such as automation of a manual procedure in record-keeping. The first step is to diagnose the nature of their differences, which could be their viewpoint on facts, methods, goals, or values. Topics include the reasons for their different perspectives, the general solutions of avoidance, repression, sharpening into conflict and transformation into problem solving, five developmental stages in a dispute, managerial objectivity, and the disruptive effect of disputes.
