Abstract

The article examines the role of business in economizing, in social responsibility, and in handling "bigness" in the American society. The author first discusses the nature and meaning of economizing, social responsibility and bigness. In recent years, Americans have heard more talk about business responsibilities. Trying to make "business conscience" the cure for the precarious state of the country's expanding economy is only a symptom of ailments and disabilities which are becoming plainly visible in the nation today. Industry leaders and labor are urged to rise to the challenge of "business statesmanship" and "social responsibility."
