Abstract

This article discusses the need for management in the United States to develop a dynamic portfolio to keep up with the dynamic economy. The article also discusses problems associated with pension funds, significant factors in the formulation of fund investment policy, and makes the suggestion that inflation should not play a part in determining pension fund investment portfolios. Charts presented in the article present information regarding earnings achieved in alternative investment opportunities from 1946 to 1957, structure and earnings of the General Electric Company pension fund portfolio, and college retirement equities fund earnings and capital gains.
