Abstract

The article examines the developments in the United States Federal Reserve System after events in the New York City stock exchanges and the Stock Market Crash of 1929. The policies of the Federal Reserve System and the New York Bank are examined in terms of ideal intentions expressed in their charters and the actual systems in practice. Specific consideration is given to the discount rate policies of each institution, and the role of Federal Reserve agents as the most capable bankers in the United States is also discussed.
