Abstract

The article presents a vision for the U.S. drug industry in 2012. It is said that the U.S. has been affected by deficit-cutting fever, and increasing healthcare costs are driving non-discretionary spending in the federal budget. Congressional supercommittees were considering several measures including deep cuts to Medicare, eliminating the tax deductibility of pharmaceutical advertising and Part D drug rebates that drug companies say amount to price controls.
