Abstract

The article focuses on the retrieval of cloud parameters from satellite multi-spectral imager data using optimal estimation. The parameters include cloud top pressure, cloud optical depth, cloud effective radius. Optimal estimation is tested by performing retrieval simulations for a variety of simulated single layer and multi-layer conditions. The algorithm is applied to both the Along-Track Scanning Radiometers (ATSR-2) and AATSR
