Abstract

The article presents a detailed account of the industrial relations problems in the anthracite coal mining industry. The author suggests that the problems were reoccurring because of unresolved issues in labor relations between the corporations and the union workers. He points out that labor agreements did solve certain specific problems, but not overall industrial relations. The author examines the successes that the labor union had and the overall problems that caused union outbursts, as well as how the union helped the industry stabilize prices. He also points out that the operators are now more concerned with working with the union instead of trying to break it.
