Abstract
- The article discusses plagiarism in the writing of college students and examines ways in which professors and students can use software programs such as Turnitin and WriteCheck to avoid approving or submitting plagiarized works. Several issues are discussed regarding plagiarism prevention including the differences in the roles of college teachers and students in the editing process, concerns regarding the use of the anti-plagiarism software and its impact on the classroom environment, and proper teaching methods to reduce cheating. The use of the software by students who speak English as a second language is explored and comments from professors Rebecca Moore Howard, Susan D. Blum, and Panagiotis Ipeirotis are presented.
