Abstract

The article presents a study of the kinetics of the formation of acetic and formic acid during the accelerated ageing process determined by customized ASTM D 6819-02 procedure. Newsprint paper was used in accelerated ageing at 98 degrees Celsius and 50% RH for 60 days. Results showed that the brittleness index uttered as embrittlement due to paper degradation is linked with the increase in the concentrations of carboxylic acids and the moral ratio of acetic acid to formic acid concentration.
