Abstract

The article reports on the housebuilding industry as a coordination of products and materials and seeks to evaluate the production process as a whole with a goal of increased efficiency. The millwork industry and warm air furnaces markets are cited as specific examples. The process of extracting wood material, processing the wood at mills and marketing the wood to builders is expressed. For furnaces, the casting process, foundries' contributions, shipping, processing, and assembling furnaces before they are sold to builders is another coordinated effort. Housebuilding is evaluated with respect to the entire process.
