Abstract

The article presents a survey on the purchasing intents of consumers in the United States after the end of World War II. The author points out several assumptions that involve the end of the war, including that after the nation will have the greatest amount of industrial capacity, raw materials, skilled workmen, pent-up consumer demand, and largest savings on record than ever before in history. He describes the method of the survey, ultimately asking what commodity the consumer would purchase if the war ended tomorrow. Furthermore, he describes how these desires could change before the end of the war, and several problems presented by the war's end, including displaced workers and the decomissioning of war factories.
