Abstract
- The article discusses U.S. market changes during the World War II period. In 1944 the average weekly earnings of workers in manufacturing industries was nearly doubled. Salaries and wages increased over 120% from 1939 to 1943. The average non-agricultural family was two and a half times better off in terms of discretionary income. The U.S.' rural, non-farm population increased more rapidly than either the urban or farm populations. Smaller-sized families dominated in the period from 1930-1940.
