Abstract

The article provides commentary on personal expenditure and income analysis, specifically focusing on those who spend more than they earn, who are known as dis-savers. Data from the "Study of Consumer Purchases" and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics are presented. The data utilizes an accrual method for determining cost of living and adjusting for long term use of a product, such as a house, automobile or furniture. The primary concerns of the article are to determine patterns of 'dis-saving' and evaluating if 'dis-saving' is a sign of distress.
