Abstract
- The article presents an analysis of the 'trade' occupation and seeks to evaluate the changing output per person over the stated forty year time period. The author explains that those employed in 'trade' are determined by their occupational function, not their industry attachment. An index of manufacturing output is used to measure the total economic production figures from 1900 and 1940. A chart is presented which tracks the total estimate of trade employment at ten year intervals. Sources of variation in manufacturing output are discussed.
