Abstract

The article focuses on Alaska Railroad, a Class II railroad which is run by the state agency Alaska Railroad Corp. and carries both freight and passengers. Transportation Superintendent David Blazejewski describes it as a miniature Class I railroad. It makes abundant use of technology like GPS on all locomotives, automatic equipment identification, a wheel impact load detector, high-wide detectors, high-adhesion A.C. locomotives, distributed power, head-end power, welded rail, concrete ties.
