This article presents the opinion of the German historian Hans Peter Ullmann on the topic of national debt relief. Ullmann states his opinion that political and economic solutions for debt relief neglect the historical context and complexity of the actual problems, that national debt relief is a political problem and therefore social and economical ramifications of national debt should be fixed by politicians, and why a historical perspective on national debt relief has contemporary relevance.
