Abstract

The article presents a study focusing on the limitations of the definition of health proposed by the World Health Organization. It criticizes the definition of health on the grounds of obsolescence in adapting to the changing demographics, patterns of illness and difficulties in measuring aspects of health like an individual's coping and adapting capacity and strength of physiological resilience. It brings out the need to redefine human health with the ability to adapt and self manage in the context of physical, mental and social domain. It is suggested that stakeholders including patients and common public be consulted in discussions about this.
