Abstract

The article presents a response to the reappraisal of the monetary and credit system in Great Britain, conducted by the Radcliffe Committee. The article discusses the three titles produced by the committee, "Report of the Committee on the Working of the Monetary System," "Principal Memoranda of Evidence," and "Minutes of Evidence." The three works contain opinions and recommendation, recommendations for monetary policy, and comments as to the relationship between the Bank of England and the British government. The author considers the perplexing lack of dissention amongst committee members, the committee recommendations, the committee's thoughts on the technical aspects of public financing, and monetary policy and its domestic and international implications.
