Abstract

This article discusses realized yields on corporate securities and how these compare with a measure for expected yield that is often used by researchers. Little research has been done on ex post yields, which may be due to the difficulty of calculating this information. The yields of bonds, preferred, and common stock were studied to test the measurement method. Several tables are included in the article that show the realized yields of common stock that were sold between 1929 and 1962, the realized yield of preferred stocks for the same period, and the realized yield of bonds from 1929-1962.
