Lyrics to the song "Hymn to Aphrodite," by Sappho in various translations are presented. "Hymn to Aphrodite," translated by W. E. Gladstone. First Line: Him rival to the gods I place, Last Line: Twin clouds of night mine eyes bedim. "Hymn to Aphrodite," translated by R. F. Burton. First Line: Peer of a god meseemeth he, Last Line: Mine eyes with night. "Hymn to Aphrodite," translated by Ambrose Philips. First Line: Blest as the immortal gods is he, Last Line: I fainted, sank, and died away.
