Abstract
- The article discusses a study concerning the use of a snow/atmosphere coupled simulation to determine surface and near-surface snow temperature at Dome C in Antarctica. It stresses the importance of the monitoring and simulation of surface temperature over the Antarctic plateau as the former influences snow and firn layer temperatures at up to tens of meters below the surface. It notes that the snow/atmosphere model was able to produce accurate computations of energy exchanges at the snow/atmosphere interface as well as simulate the joint evolution of the top layers of snow and the layer of the atmospheric boundary. It adds that no significant bias in terms of snow surface and near-surface temperatures has been exhibited by the model.
