Abstract

The article presents a study that investigate the occurrence and distribution of canine tick-borne disease (TBD) pathogens in four cities in India. In the study, capillary and whole blood samples were collected from the cephalic and/or jugular veins of 525 dogs. Blood smears were made from whole blood and buffycoat preparations, air-dried and fixed in 100% ethanol. The prevalence and 95% binomial exact confidence intervals (CI) were calculated for the microscopy and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results for each TBD pathogen using Sourceforge.
