Abstract

The article discusses the U.S. Trade Expansion Act (TEA) of 1962. The TEA is designed to "promote the general welfare, foreign policy, and security of the U.S." through international trade agreements. The legislation will also provide adjustment assistance to domestic industry, agriculture, and labor. This concept of interdependence is a symbol of the U.S.' departure from political and economic isolationism to a more liberalized policy. The specific purposes of the Act are outlined as stimulating the growth of the U.S., strengthening economic relations with foreign countries, and preventing Communist economic penetration.
