Abstract

The article focuses on treasure hunting in fields of former monasteries and abbeys. Among the people who lived in these buildings, or made journeys there, six centuries ago, were the monks, the lay brothers who helped in organizing heavy work, the merchants, and the pilgrims. When digging for monastic losses, it is suggested to look for footpaths fanning out from the main building, bridges and fords, former ponds, sheep washes, limekiln sites, and traces of temporary structures.
