Abstract
- The article presents a debate on whether adult patients in Australia should be routinely tested for heritable thrombophilia after an episode of venous thromboembolism (VTE). It discusses the need for local evidence-based guidelines that take into account the prevalence of heritable thrombophilia, and the availability of population norms to guide interpretation of test results. The validity of the test result and the evaluation of clinical risk factors are also considered.
