Abstract

Chapter 7 of Part II of the book "Futures of Chinese Cinema: Technologies and Temporalities in Chinese Screen Cultures," edited by Olivia Khoo and Sean Metzger is presented. It focuses the success of Chinese director Feng Xiaogang due to his commercial films in China. It also investigates the impact of commercial films on the motion picture industry in the country and to the approach used by commercial filmmakers who were formerly known for their art house styles.
