Abstract

The article presents an economic analysis of the employee benefit programs in the U.S. The authors examined the economic ramifications of an expansion of benefit programs in the country. They analyzed the relationship between benefit programs and the country's general wage policy. They also examined the major elements of a sound wage stabilization policy proposed by the Council of Economic Advisers. The authors believe that employee benefit plans should be improved and expanded at the present time. They called for an increase in employer contributions to employee benefit plans. They conceded that prediction of the economic impact of an expansion of health, welfare and pension plans is a difficult task and that the actual cost of all benefit programs in the country is difficult to determine.
