Abstract

The article presents a commentary on the paper "Prosperity versus Strikes," by Theodore Levitt published in the January 1953 issue of "Industrial and Labor Relations Reviews. It outlines the major issues and arguments discussed by Levitt. It presents evidence that there exists a relation between strikes and the business cycle. It contends that the role attributed by Levitt to workers' expenditure patterns and outstanding debts on the propensity to strike is overemphasized. A rejoinder by Levitt is also presented.
