Abstract

The article discusses a study of using an automated bone segmentation and three-dimensional (3D) puzzle solving algorithms to obtain fracture reconstructions in highly comminuted tibial plafond fractures. The study involved 10 tibial plafond fracture cases. Fragment native surfaces were matched to an intact template created from a mirror image of the healthy contralateral limb to reconstruct the tibia. The significance of virtual pre-operative reconstruction planning to articular fracture treatment is noted.
