Abstract

The article discusses the 1965 national elections in the Sudan. According to the article, the Sudan returned to a parliamentary system of government following the demise of the military government of the Sudan in October 1964. The article examines the difficulties in establishing a date for the election and the role of several political parties, particularly the National Unionist Party (NUP), the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and the Umma Party. The article describes the Constituent Assembly Election Act, qualifications for candidacy for office, and voter registration. It also discusses the election results, including the performances of the political parties the Islamic Charter Front and the Communist Party.
