Abstract
- A chapter of the book "A New Sociology of Work?" is presented. It discusses a research project that examined the post-strike experiences of a South Wales coal-mining neighborhood in the mid-1980s. The author argues that community work provided a significant occupation for residents. The chapter discusses communal relations in working-class areas, community interaction, and community organization as a factor in economic growth. It also examines the significance of women's relationships to public and private spheres and the possible reconfiguration of communal and class relations.
