Abstract: The article discusses the political climate in the Palestinian territories as of July 2011. A reconciliation agreement has been signed on May 4 by the two main rival Palestinian factions, Hamas and Fatah, for the formation of a joint caretaker government before the elections. Palestinian refugees demanded their right of return by rallying around Israel's borders on May 15th and June 5th. The issues concerning the formal recognition of the state of Palestine are also discussed.
