Abstract

The article reports on the Second Reading debate on the Education Bill introduced by British Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove before the House of Commons on February 8, 2011. Gove claimed that voting against the bill would prevent the provision of additional funding for disadvantaged children. He explained that provisions ensuring the participation of schools in international studies would be included in the bill. Education select committee chairman Graham Stuart offered his arguments on monitoring behaviour and discipline in schools.
