Abstract

The article presents a study, conducted by scientists at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, on an overactive network of growth-spurring genes in 2011. The genes drive stem-like breast cancer cells with triple-negative breast tumors, an aggressive cancer which resists to current therapies. Kornelia Polyak, a breast cancer geneticist at Dana-Faber, and colleagues discovered that a large proportion of cells in the tumors revealed elevated activity in Jak2/Stat3 pathway.
