Abstract

The article discusses the controversy between the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association (CWHBA) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) over conflicting interpretations of the Animal Pedigree Act (APA). An overview of the Warmblood horse's history and pedigrees in Western Europe is given. Under the APA, if the animals are genetically and physically the same and reproduce the same way, then they are the same. A discussion on steps taken by CWHBA to make sure that the Warmblood remain a distinct breed is provided.
