Abstract

The article discusses research which evaluated the one-hour post-load glucose measurement (1-hour glucose) in conjunction with body mass index (BMI) in predicting mortality and development of diabetes over 44 years of follow-up. The study involved 2756 healthy men with 1-hour glucose and were not diagnosed with diabetes or cardiovascular disease at baseline. A strong and graded association was noted between 1-hour glucose quartiles and both total and cardiovascular mortality and occurrence of diabetes.
