Abstract
- This paper describes a television documentary in which two contradictory versions of a story are presented. The paper explores how these two versions are given without the narratorial voice in the film appearing inconsistent. It is argued that this is achieved mainly because in the first half of the film the epistemic status of much of the material is kept indeterminate and that it is therefore open to reinterpretation in the second half of the film. The indeterminacy is maintained by features of language and of image. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
