Abstract

The article reports on the decline of direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising spending for prescription drugs from 4.6 billion dollars in October 2009 to 4.4 billion dollars in October 2010 in the U.S. It outlines the top pharmaceutical companies in DTC advertising including Pfizer Inc., Eli Lilly & Co. and GlaxoSmithKline. It highlights the Lipitor brand from Pfizer in which the company spent 272 million dollars for marketing the drug.
